The fourth-generation wireless communication (4G) systems whose most popular standard known as Long-Term Evolution (LTE) has been the most successful wireless mobile broadband technology across the world. Despite being a very capable technology and being still received upgrades and new features from the telcos, there are requirements that are not possible to meet with LTE. Moreover, it has been over 10 years since the work on LTE was initiated, the technology development allows for more advanced technical solutions. To meet these requirements and to exploit the potential of new technologies, a new fifth-generation (5G) radio access knows as New Radio (NR) has been standardized and developed. In this Capstone Project, we study “Research and implementation of Cell Setup Procedure in MAC and PHY layers for 5G-NR gNodeB base station” which focus on the communication between two lowest layers in the gNodeB protocol stack when the base station is booted up. The system studied in this project is just a small but crucial part of a whole 5G system.vi
